Top 10 Web 2.0 Winners

Defining "2.0 Web"

In alluding to the version-numbers that commonly designate s/w upgrades, the phrase "Web 2.0" hints at an improved form of the World Wide Web (www). Technologies such blogs, social bookmarking and RSS feeds, social s/w, and on9 web services such as eBay and Googlemail provide enhancements over read-only websites

More infor : Wikipedia

Today I am going to look at the top 10 sites that I feel have exceeded the expectations of many and have taken marketshare away from established leaders or have become leaders themselves in their industries. Again, these sites don’t have to represent the Web 2.0 concept of rounded corners and AJAX technology, they are simply showing strength during this time of the web.

  1. Myspace. Love it or hate it, this is the top dog on the Web right now and it doesn’t look like anyone is going to take it down anytime soon. With Myspace it was never about the feature set or interface because other sites offer more and look better, it was always about the community (if you are not on Myspace, you are not on anywhere) and the control you had over your page. What fascinates me the most about the site though is that it has gone beyond being just a social site and has now become a social platform where companies form around the sole purpose of developing widgets to use on Myspace. That’s power that any site would love to have. With the amount of people that use the site, any new project that Myspace starts is bound to be an instant hit. Rupert Murdoch is already claiming that Myspace Video will overtake YouTube in 60 days which is no small feat when you consider that YouTube serves over 100MM videos a day.
  2. WordPress. After dethroning SixApart (losers list) in the self-hosted blogging category, Matt Mullenweg set his sights on the hosted blogging space and has been kicking major ass. What makes this even more intriguing is that WordPress.com is essentially running on Open Source software so you aren’t left with the feeling that development will stop anytime soon as you do with MovableType or Typepad. Add to that, the service is free with addons costing a small price per year and you have a company that has a revenue model that doesn’t revolve around advertising (sad when I get that happy over something like that).
  3. Flickr. A popular choice on any Web 2.0 list, this was the first real Web 2.0 breakout hit due to its use of tagging and sense of community. After being bought by Yahoo! things don’t seem to be slowing down and through the use of a great set of APIs the service has become a viral phenonmenon. It has yet to really make a splash with the mainstream audience who still use the larger photo-sharing sites, but it is making great strides to catch up. A free service that uses ads or a Pro version which costs a minimal amount of money per year, Flickr has created a revenue model that revolves around the best of both worlds.
  4. YouTube. In my opinion the most addictive site on the web. There has been a lot of talk lately about the value of YouTube and its ability to stay alive with all the copyrighted content it has on the site, but people tend to forget that the same companies that hold these copyrights are the exact same companies that have been looking for effective ways to reach the younger crowds online. A Chinese kid lip-synching to Backstreet Boys may be copyright infringement due to the use of the song, but how often can a 10 year old song be heard by over 2MM potential buyers in just a couple of days? Companies are starving for this kind of attention and they can get it now without even trying. The company is demanding $1.5 billion to buy them out and it’s quite possible they will find a suitor. For all the talk that people are going to leave in droves to go to other sites that offer money, well let’s just say large sites like this just don’t die in an instant. YouTube will be around for a very long time.
  5. Revver and MetaCafe. Not nearly as popular as YouTube, but still making large strides these two video sites offer producers monetary rewards for posting videos up on their site. Some of the more popular YouTube directors have been using these sites to generate some cash for their efforts, while still posting on YouTube to gain audience. That’s the kicker, even when another site offers them money for their content, they still post on YouTube because that’s where they will make their mark. With revenue-sharing in place and a model similar to YouTube’s, both of these sites are looking very good right now.
  6. Newsvine. Simply how news sites will be done in the 21st Century. With the way syndication of news works, you can read the same story in multiple places, but Newsvine offers reader feedback and a strong community to complement the news you read everyday. If participating isn’t your thing, you are still provided with up to the minute news reports just like any other news site.Newsvine’s audience is mature and knowledgeable and doesn’t cater to just the geek crowd, which is refreshing in this era of the web. A clean design, the type you would expect from Mike Davidson, help to make the site a pleasure to get around.
  7. Yahoo. The largest and strongest company on the list has a sense of where the web is moving. With early acquisitions of Flickr and del.icio.us, Yahoo understands the value of community sites with user-generated content. Now they are the forerunner in getting Facebook so even when people being to panic due to the cutback in advertising it still looks like clear skies for Yahoo. And if you don’t believe in the power of being acquired by a big company, del.icio.us has just announced they have registered their one millionth user and showing a growth rate that has tripled since being acquired.
  8. Digg. There isn’t much to say about Digg that hasn’t already been said. It has taken old school concepts and remixed them in a way that has become addicting. With over 500k registered users in less than two months their growth is almost unmatched. What makes this site so great and why it will continue to grow is the ease of use of the site. After registering you are thrown right into the action and can participate simply by clicking a Digg button. As the community grows their will be more and more turmoil, but that won’t hide the fact that if you are looking for interesting stories and sites, Digg will remain the #1 place to go for a very long time.If you run a site there is no greater pleasure than having an article reach the Digg frontpage. If you want traffic, this is where the action is and that will help keep the site fresh moving upwards.
  9. Skype. If you use VoIP you use Skype. That’s pretty much all you need to know.
  10. Facebook. Potentially to be bought out by Yahoo for $1 billion, Facebook makes a strong case for not trying to cater to everyone. However, things will change now that they have opened registrations for all to use. However, the fact that you can’t manipulate your page like you can with Myspace may show that users want freedom and control if you want their attention.Of course with such a great user interface I may be proven wrong.

Colourbar

Colourbar..@@
I hope it will be helpful to a lot of you. I’ll try to make everything sounds as easy as possible :D

What is needed?

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • B&W manga scans/Prt Scr will do
Here we go!

Firstly you need to crop manga scans to preferred size. I guess that you’d like all the images to be of the same size. There’s one easy trick to it:

Now you need to incorporate all your little images into a bigger one. If it’s difficult to you to place them accurately, use smart guides. You can enable them by clicking View -> Show -> Smart Guides.

It’s time to select colour range. My images, however, have too much gray tones, so I have to make the contrast level higher first. If you have a similar problem, merge down the layers with the images first (the fastest way is to use Ctrl+E) and then click Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness&Contrast.

It’s time to select all the black lines. The fastest way to do it is really simple. Please click Select -> Color Range.

Now we’ll colour the selection. Colourbars are usually coloured thanks to gradients. It’s a very useful tool and if you learn how to use it effectively, you can make many pretty things ;). Standard gradients are not so beautiful, so I suggest you download some from deviantart.com or any other site (or even better, make them by yourself by right-clicking on them).
Anyway, please choose the Gradient tool from the toolbar on the left (it’s under the same category as the Pain bucket tool!). Select a gradient that suits your fancy.

Now please apply the gradient tool by dragging it over the pic. Simply clicking on the image won’t get you good results. You can try various angles. The image should be colourful :D

All that’s left is adding text or some decorative elements. Congratulations, you’ve created a colourbar using a very simple method :D

Karin (香燐) (introduced chapter 348) is a former experiment subject and devotee of Orochimaru who had been guarding one of his prisons. Sasuke Uchiha picks her as one of the recruits for his team. While Sasuke admits she may be troublesome, he also notes that her special abilities (which are left unexplained) make her useful. Karin seems to have an inconsistent personality; she acts tough and defiant around other people (especially Suigetsu), but becomes shy and amorous when alone with Sasuke.

Wanna watch ur fav naruto/bleach as quick as possible?

I recommend - Dattebayo

At this site...u will get the chance to watch anime in a lightning speed compare to those popular streaming sites!! And those forums that provide download. Because those sites download the video from Dattebayo. Zzz..
And the quality of the video is damn good!! Flash video quality is shit..lmao

But...please dont abuse the video tat u download from Dattebayo..

Please read the term and condition b4 u get d benefit from this Lan ci fansubs if not u will get band easily!

And dont ask stupid question such as:

  1. Is Naruto licensed?

Yes, it is. As of February 19, 2005. Now you heard it. If you ask this question in the channel, the contact page, or anywhere else we can track you down, you will be BANNED immediately.

  2. Is downloading Naruto, Bleach illegal?

Generally speaking, yes. Downloading fansubs, regardless of their license status is illegal in United States and various other countries. United States Code Title 17 does not allow distribution of copyrighted work by anyone except the copyright owner, and while others may claim that subtitling and distributing anime for entertainment purposes fits under the "fair use" exception, it most certainly does not.

  3. What happened to #DB on Rizon?

DB has changed how it manages its channels. #db on irc.rizon.net is no longer an active channel. Do not join that channel. Instead, connect to irc.animenfo.com server and join #db there.

  4. It seems to me that Naruto says "dattebayo" a lot. What does it mean?

    It means, "I'm gay."
Actually it means nothing at all. It's just something random that Naruto adds onto the end of almost all of his lines to annoy us. Please don't send us feedback telling us we're wrong because you've taken 3 weeks of Japanese classes or read differently on urbandictionary.com.

  5. When does Naruto air?

Naruto airs on Thursday at 7:27pm JST (Japan Standard Time).

  6. When does Bleach air?

Bleach airs on Wednesday at 7:27pm JST (Japan Standard Time).

  7. What time is that where I live?

    http://www.google.com/

  8. When will the episode be out?

We generally release within 20 hours of airing. It varies somewhat from week to week, but not a lot. If you really need to know, you can see exactly how long all of our episodes have been out on the BitTorrent page, so figure it out from there. If you ask us this in the channel, you will be BANNED.

  9. Why will I be banned for asking about release times?

    • Because it's annoying.
    • Because it distracts us from actually working on the episode.
    • Because it's rude.
    • Because we're providing you a free service and we'll release whenever we damn well please.
    • Because we said so.
    • Because every time you do, a ninja cuts off a kitten's head and doesn't even care.
  10. I got banned from #db. My life is over. What do I do?

You fucked up. You are banned. Now is your chance to cool down and try to rejoin the channel in 2 hours, when the ban will automatically expire. Messaging ops about removing the ban will only extend it. If you wish to get unbanned before 2 hours, you may choose to write a 1000 word (minimum) essay about what was wrong with your actions before you got banned. Submitting this essay to one of the ops might get you unbanned earlier.

  11. I can't connect to the tracker, I must be banned, why am I banned when I didn't do anything wrong?

Calm down. Chances are you aren't banned (unless you really did do something wrong). It sometimes takes a while to connect to the tracker, especially on nights when Naruto or Bleach is released. Just relax and be patient and you will eventually be able to download.

  12. OMG WTF WHY DID YOU RELEASE A v2 AND WHAT IS DIFFERENT IN IT?

We weren't completely satisfied with v1, so we made a v2. Apply this rule as it is good for EVERY V2 YOU WILL EVER SEE.

    • IF YOU WERE HAPPY WITH THE V1, DON'T GET THE V2.
    • IF YOU ARE DOWNLOADING FOR THE FIRST TIME, GET THE V2.
    • IF YOU LIKE TO ARCHIVE OUR WORK, DOWNLOAD THE V2.

Otherwise be happy with the v1.
We usually place a short summary of differences between v1 and v2 into the torrent 'comment' field. If you don't know what that is, hover over the filename of the v2 in question on the torrent listing.

  13. Omg! You're missing episodes! Where are they?

No, we are not missing episodes. What has happened is that a double episode has been misnamed. Do NOT send us feedback asking where these eps are. If you had put a little thought into it, we wouldn't need to be answering this question right now.

    • [DB] Bleach 73 Special - Bleach 73-74
    • [DB] Naruto 166 Special - Naruto 166-167
    • [DB] Naruto 202-203-204 - Naruto 203-204-205.
  14. What do you all do?

Try reading the credits. It makes us feel good.

  15. Can I become a part of DB?

Generally we are only recruiting translators, so unless you are a translator, the answer is no. We are always looking for Japanese to English translators. While we occasionally release non-English subs, we are currently NOT looking for Spanish / German / Dutch / Norwegian / Swedish translators, in other words, no languages with roman alphabet. We will review other translation offers on a case-by-case basis.

  16. Can I upload your videos to YouTube/blah/some other crappy flash video site?

No. We don't appreciate when our quality work ends up recompressed and resized and uploaded to streaming video sites so that they can make a profit off our contents. Just don't do it. We don't care what kind of site it is. Flash video quality is shit, so we DON'T WANT OUR WORK THERE. Period. This is NOT up for discussion. This includes ALL streaming video sites, and not limited to Youtube and other "popular" ones. Including DivX Stage6, too. Also keep in mind that uploading these files to a streaming video site is copyright infringement.

  17. I just created a Naruto/Bleach fan site and I want to host your torrents/episodes/etc. Can I?

You can LINK to our site, our torrent page, or directly to our .torrent files without problem. Don't ask us for banners or logos, what you see on the site is what we got. If you don't like that, link with a text link. Do NOT mirror our .torrent files, do NOT host our episodes "recompressed" / cut-up / streaming, etc. Naturally, you cannot charge your users for downloading any of our episodes.

  18. Where can I donate? I don't see a donation button.

You can't. DB doesn't accept donations.

  19. How do I register/become a member?

You can't do that either. The downloads are available for free and no registration is required.

  20. Can I help serve/seed/provide a bot?

Do whatever you want, as long as it doesn't involve spam in the channel or bother operators. Also, asking the ops if "you can seed" will likely get you banned. You don't need our permission to seed. Download the torrent and have at it. If it takes you more than few hours to download our releases, your "seeding" ability is probably not worth wasting our valuable time on.

  21. Why don't you have a RSS Feed?

Same reason we don't want retards reloading the torrent page on a Monday morning - because our release schedule is easy enough to figure out without a RSS feed. That, and we don't want thousands of idiots reloading the RSS url every minute.

  22. Can I have a voice/hop in #db?

If you have to ask, the answer is no.

  23. Can you help me with some random tech support issue that is only tangentially related to your files?

No. DB is not here to be your personal tech support team, so if you are having some weird computer issue, please do not send us feedback asking us to help.

  24. I downloaded a torrent tagged [DB] from some other site, and it wasn't what is said it was or contained malware/spyware or was in a weird format, and I'm sure it's your fault somehow.

Next time just download the torrent from our site. DB isn't responsible for what other sites do, even if they're using our name to get suckers like you to download.

  25. I heard a rumor that some of you are girls, is that true?

Of course not, there are no girls on teh intarweb.

Haha..it so different from other site..@@
Nuff said??!!

Make Your Applications Load More Faster

Another effort to enhance your PC's performance, a MUST DO!!

If you're anything like me, SPEED, is essential when it comes to my computers and their performance. Here is Another MUST TRY that can make a significant change in loading times for ANY application.

For this example, I'm going to use one of my favorite programs. If you use it, you know that it takes a little while to load; especially if you have extra fonts, brushes, etc...loaded that it needs to read. Well, were gonna make it faster along with nay other program you wanna speed up.

STEP 1: Right click on the Adobe Photoshop shortcut and select properties from the menu.

STEP 2: In the Target: Field add the /prefetch:1 switch to the very end of the path.

So originally, the Target Field shows:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Photoshop.exe"

You are going to make it show:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Photoshop.exe" /prefetch:1
There is a space between the" and the /

STEP 3: Select Apply and O.K.; or just O.K. is fine and your change will be applied.

NOTE: This switch does not work with all programs. If you complete Step 3 and get a 'target box invalid' message, just remove the /prefetch:1, Select O.K., and all will go back to normal.
This has been tested w/ Windows XP and works.
ENJOY!!

The "/prefetch" parameter was added into the C++ library a while ago, think last year, when called upon, it will load directly into the memory and not be extracted on to the computer HDD, which can be defined in System properties. Really good tweak.
