In this world, from ancient times, people were eaten by beings called "youma". For a long time, people lived without any means to counter them. However, a half-human, half-youma female warrior was born.... Female soldiers known as "Claymore" who, with silver eyes that can see through to the true form of "youma", and carry a large sword as a weapon, continue to battle those which people have named "youma".

When I first saw a few episodes, it felt like another one of those "heroes who go from town to town saving the people" type of show, like Trigun or something, which it is. It was a bit cliched, but I endured and watched a bit more. I figure, it's not really the story setting that makes a show good. It's the subtle things, like animation, artwork, character development, music, etc that really makes a show good in my eyes. While Claymore doesn't have all these aspects, it's an action-filled show full of great fight scenes while bringing a softer edge in the bonds that Clare forms with Raki. I mainly watch it for the cool limit-breaking fights, but it's nice to see that they don't skimp on character background. They are all three-dimensional, complex beings that are driven by many different forces and emotions, and that yearning is what creates the conflict that moves the storyline forward. Each episode is surprising and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. Anything goes in Claymore - major characters you don't expect to die, will die (kinda like in Fox's 24).
